Our Mission
Founded by Shalyn Cofer, a single mother who raised a child with level 3 nonverbal autism while working and completing her degree. She created this foundation to help other mothers and/or families who are navigating a similar path.
Beyond the Diagnosis Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering and sustaining families raising children with disabilities. We remove systemic and financial barriers faced by caregiving parents—especially single mothers—by providing targeted financial assistance, academic support, emotional resources, and community-based partnerships. Our work ensures caregivers are not forced to sacrifice education, stability, or long-term opportunity in order to meet their child’s complex needs. Grounded in compassion and advocacy, we exist to build equitable pathways to success and affirm that no family should have to choose between pursuing their future and caring for their child.
